Charles Krug – Vintage Selection – Cabernet Sauvignon 2013 – Napa Valley

The nose is well-balanced, slightly powerful and offers elegance. It reveals notes of fleshy wild blackberries, cassis and slight notes of fleshy wild strawberry, redcurrant combined with slight / discreet touches of toasted oak, spices as well as a subtle hint of Sichuan pepper, vanilla and a very discreet hint of liquorice. The palate is fruity, well-balanced, elegant and offers a slight gourmandise, tension, finesse, a fine straightness, suavity as well as a very slight unctuosity. On the palate this wine expresses notes of crushed blackberry, crushed ripe cassis, and touches of ripe raspberry, toasted oak associated with a subtle touch of redcurrant, slight touches of dark chocolate / mocha as well as a hint of tobacco and a discreet hint of sweet spices. Tannins are fine and a bit dusty / dry. Good length and good persistence. There is a discreet touch of toffee on the aftertaste.
