Louis-Fabrice Latour, the president of the Maison Louis Latour, dies at the age of 58

The sad news arrived on September the 5th, just in the middle of another harvest day in Burgundy. The eleventh generation of the family to run the company, Louis-Fabrice succumbed to cancer.

With 750.000 cases per year Maison Louis Latour is one of the largest producers in Bourgogne (Burgundy). Besides that, they produce wines in Ardèche and Var in the south of France. Louis-Fabrice took the reins of the house from his father Louis Latour in 1999 and since that time expanded the company with the purchase of Simonnet-Febvre in Chablis and Henry Fessy in Beaujolais.

Louis-Fabrice was a true ambassador of Burgundy and, as per the official announcement of the company, “a staunch defender of the territory”.  He played a considerable role in the creation of the region’s reputation and wealth for the past 20 years. Louis-Fabrice was co-president of the BIVB (the Bourgogne Wine Board), president of the Federation of merchants of greater Burgundy (FNEB) and the Federation of French wine and spirits exporters (FEVS). In 2011, he received La Légion d’Honneur for all his efforts to promote Bourgogne and, in general, French wine all over the world.

The team of VertdeVin expresses our deep condolences to the family. We will always remember the enriching conversations with Monsieur Latour at the Hospices de Beaune tastings.
