Jura Wine Awards 2014
Award-winning wines at the “Concours des Vins du Jura” and spotlight on Jura’ wines
During the month of July, 170 wine tasters gathered at Domblans for the Jura’ wines Awards. Over 500 samples were tasted and rated. The jury tested the AOC Arbois, AOC Côtes du Jura, AOC Château-Chalon and AOC L’Etoile, each with different colors (white tradition, white floral, red, rosé, vin jaune and vin de paille). These four wine geographical indications and appellations with three products (Macvin Jura, Crémant du Jura and the Marc du Jura) have been the subject of attention of the panel of tasters. Some Eaux-de-Vie de Fine and Marc were also tasted. In the end, 163 medals were awarded to fifty fields 79 gold medals, 76 silver and 8 bronze.
Focus on the Jura vineyard
The history of the Jura vineyards dates back to the 1st century (description by Pline Le Jeune in his work Natural History). Nowadays this vineyard extends over 80 kilometers along the Revermont. The Jura region extends over 1,900 hectares of vineyards and has four geographic AOC that were recognized very early, as early as 1936: AOC Arbois, AOC Côtes du Jura, AOC L’Etoile and AOC Château-Chalon and three appellations “products” : Macvin du Jura, Crémant du Jura and Marc du Jura.
