Jean-Charles Boisset acquires Artesa Estate in Los Carneros

Raventós Codorníu has sold Artesa Estate to Jean-Charles Boisset. Known for its striking hillside architecture, the southern Napa Valley property enters a new chapter with renewed interest in sparkling wine.

Jean-Charles Boisset announced on 23 September 2026 that he had acquired Artesa Estate from Spain’s Raventós Codorníu group. The deal covers a 350-acre (approximately 142-hectare) property, including 155 acres (approximately 63 hectares) of vineyards in Los Carneros and the Mt Veeder area. The purchase price has not been disclosed.

Established as Codorníu Napa in 1991, the estate was originally conceived to produce Californian sparkling wines. It subsequently developed a reputation for still wines, particularly Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. In Los Carneros, the maritime influence of San Pablo Bay brings cooler conditions than those found in many other parts of Napa Valley. Boisset intends to build on the potential of this setting.

The new owner plans to renew the estate’s focus on sparkling wine, both under the Artesa name and through his JCB collection. Chardonnay and Pinot Noir remain central to his plans. His announcement also outlines opportunities to explore cool-climate expressions of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, alongside Albariño and Tempranillo.

These are stated ambitions rather than newly released wines. Artesa also has a distinctive architectural identity. Its gravity-flow winery is set into the hillside, with pyramid-shaped structures and reflecting pools. Boisset wants to strengthen the estate’s connection with art and develop new ways for visitors to experience its wines, architecture and landscape. Details of those initiatives have yet to be announced.

For Raventós Codorníu, the sale forms part of a portfolio review intended to focus investment on priority regions. Boisset already has a substantial presence in California through estates including Raymond Vineyards, Buena Vista Winery and DeLoach Vineyards. Artesa gives him a property in Los Carneros that brings together his interest in Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and the visitor experience. The next chapter will show how these plans take shape in the wines and at the estate. Some tasting notes for several Artesa wines are available on VertdeVin magazine.
