Niepoort – 30 Years Old Tawny – Porto

(bottled in 2023) the nose is complex and offers intensity, gourmandize, finesse in its power as well as a fine, intense and stretched grain. There are notes of dried flowers, dried zest and small notes of rancio associated with touches of smoke, tobacco, dried fig, dried orange as well as hints of potpourri, dried rose, pepper, almost aromatic herbs, grilled and spices. The palate is fruity, juicy, fresh, acidity and offers a nice energy, an acidulous frame, a nice roundness, a certain gourmandize, a nice fat, elegance, a nice stretched side as well as delicacy in its power. On the palate this wine expresses notes of candied mandarin, marmalade and small notes of dried fig associated with touches of crystallized lemon, pineapple in syrup, hints of caramelization, rancio, cloves as well as fine hints of camphor, chocolate, a hint of eucalyptus and pepper. A fine tannic side on the finish both in aromatics and in structure.
