Maison Cassagne et Vitailles, “Les Chausmes” – 2020, Montpeyroux-Languedoc

The wine has a ruby color of medium intensity. The nose is aromatic (medium (+) intensity) and complex. It reveals spicy and warm notes of dark chocolate, cocoa, sweet spices (cinnamon, liquorice, nutmeg, a slight touch of vanilla) as well as flowers (lavender, lily, lotus). The notes of red fruits complete the sophisticated bouquet of this wine. The wine expresses touches of fresh strawberry, wild strawberry, bigarreau cherry, morello cherry, red currant, cassis. A hint of mentrol and blackcurrant leaf brings a touch of freshness to the bouquet. The palate is powerful and elegant: the attack is expressive and ripe, with fresh juicy black fruits and jam (blackberry and blackberry jam, Morello cherry, tangy red fruit jam, crushed strawberry, wild strawberry, raspberry sauce). The tannic structure is refined and velvety: the tannins have a medium (+) level and a fine grain. The wine is long on the palate, with medium (+) acidity that is persistent and lively. Nice complexity on the finish: sweet spices (cinnamon, clove), black pepper, a slight bitterness of cocoa and coffee develop into juicy notes of morello cherry and chocolate plum, fresh black plum and redcurrant coulis . A beautiful structure, concentration and suppleness, good aging potential.
