Joseph Phelps – Insignia 2012, Estate Grown – Napa Valley

The nose is fruity, elegant and offers a small richness. It reveals notes of fleshy blackberry, fleshy cassis and small notes of fleshy strawberry associated with small touches of crushed red berries, crushed raspberry and hints of caramelization, toasted hints, Bourbon vanilla as well as a very discreet hint of nutmeg. The palate is fruity, well-balanced and offers a good definition, a small acid frame, minerality, freshness, a certain straightness, a small juiciness, a beautiful fresh / acidulous frame as well as a small aerial side. On the palate this wine expresses notes of ripe cassis, crushed / ripe blackberry and small touches of crunchy strawberry, fresh / crushed redcurrants combined with hints of blueberry, caramelization, tobacco as well as a hint of almond and very discreet hints of Zan. Tannins are fine and elegant. Very slight chew on the finish. Good length. Good and gourmande persistence. There is a very discreet hint of fresh hazelnut on the aftertaste.
