Domaine de Pignan 2020 – Châteauneuf-du-Pape

Domaine de Pignan 2020 – Châteauneuf-du-Pape

The wine has a ruby color of medium intensity. The nose is expressive, fragrant and spicy. It offers precise and pronounced, but delicate notes of sweet spices: clove, nutmeg, fresh liquorice, white pepper, coriander seeds and fresh vanilla, combined with hints of aromatic herbs, which bring freshness and elegance. There are notes of fresh peppermint, dried mint, oregano, fresh thyme, rosemary, fresh bay leaf, as well as wild flowers, cornflower and garrigue. The wine also offers a ripe and generous fruity bouquet: notes of wild strawberry, crushed strawberry, wild blackberry, fresh morello cherry, bigarreau cherry and blackcurrant (in the background). On the palate, the wine is fragrant and expressive. It offers notes of sweet spices (vanilla, liquorice, cloves, nutmeg cumin), herbs (dried mint, fresh peppermint, fresh oregano, fresh thyme, roasted rosemary, a touch of garrigue herbs ), wild flowers, cornflower, as well as dark chocolate and a light touch of roasting (coffee, toast). A nice fruity substance on the palate: ripe, with a slight sweetness, but not overripe. We find notes of juicy morello cherry, macerated red cherry, fresh wild strawberry, crushed strawberry, blueberry jam, wild blackberry and a touch of blackcurrant. The tannins are well built, melted, velvety, but structured. The finish is very long, savoury, with notes of sweet spices (cumin, cloves) and a touch of fresh tobacco. Elegance and power. Very good aging potential.
