Conterno Fantino Ginestra Vigna del Gris 2021 – Barolo

The wine has a pale ruby color. The nose offers concentration, precision, a tangy fruitiness, as well as distinct spicy and herbal hints. It expresses in particular the aromas of dried red cherry, tangy strawberry, fresh raspberry and crushed blueberry, associated with notes of liquorice, white pepper and nutmeg, dried peppermint, as well as dried rose, fresh rose petals, violet, a hint of dried pine needles, a very light touch of tar, as well as a delicate hint of fresh and toasted nutty nuances (a hint of toasted hazelnut, fresh almond in the background). The palate is firm, with a dry attack and grippy tannins, as well as a lively and salivating tangy frame (cranberries, raspberry, crunchy strawberry, bigarreau cherry). It also expresses notes of blackcurrant leaf, rose leaf and a woody hint of rose stem, associated with a good bitterness of fresh cherry and coffee, a tangy and slightly bitter hint of citrus fruits (grapefruit, bergamot with its slight smokiness). We also find touches of dried rose, tar in the background, liquorice and nutmeg. The finish is tight, tannic, but a lively and salivating acidity as well as a touch of chocolate bring a certain balance. Good persistence on juicy fruits. A closed wine for the moment, but with potential.
