Château Vieux Maillet 2021 – Pomerol

Château Vieux Maillet 2021 – Pomerol

The nose is fruity, fresh, harmonious and reveals elegance and a nice finesse of grain. There are notes of pulpy blackcurrant, tart violet plum and, more slightly, violet, combined with hints of crushed red currant, cherry, fine hints of fresh flowers, as well as a hint of star anise/savour and a very discreet touch of pepper. The palate is fruity, balanced and delicate, revealing juiciness, freshness, definition, minerality, gourmandize, brilliance, definition, silkiness and tension. On the palate, this wine expresses notes of pulpy/juicy blackberry, pulpy/juicy violet plum and, more slightly, crisp/acidic cherry, combined with fine touches of cherry blossom, peony and discreet hints of tonka bean, a subtle hint of sweet blond tobacco and a very discreet varietal hint (in the background). The tannins are racy. Good length. Good work on the bitter taste.
