Château Phélan Ségur 2020 – Saint-Estèphe

Château Phélan Ségur 2020 – Saint-Estèphe

The wine has a ruby color of medium intensity. The nose is fragrant and woody at first. It expresses notes of toasted oak, toasted (even caramelized) hazelnut and toasted almond. We then find freshness and a beautiful fruitiness in notes of wild mint, menthol, pine needles, pine sap, fresh strawberry, crushed raspberry, fresh blackcurrant, blueberry, morello cherry and red cherry, as well as an elegant floral bouquet (violet, cornflower, rose) and sweet spices (licorice, nutmeg). The palate is savoury, gourmand and airy, with a beautiful structure of firm but melted tannins and a lot of elegance. The wine first expresses pleasant notes of sweet spices (ground cumin, cloves, licorice) and a smoky touch, associated with fruity flavors (roasted red cherry, wild strawberry, creamy blackcurrant, morello cherry, redcurrant jelly, blueberry) and floral (violet, cornflower, peony). The finish is long, fresh, with a nice acidity and gourmandise, brought by notes of cocoa and cherry in chocolate on the finish. The tannins are tighter in the finish, but can round out over time. Elegance, strong structure and good potential.
