Cataldi Madonna – Girovago 2019 – Montepulciano d’Abruzzo

Cataldi Madonna – Girovago 2019 – Montepulciano d’Abruzzo

A pretty elegant nose, a nice controlled richness, some power, racy, purity. There are notes of creamy blackberry, bigarreau cherry and more lightly liquorice combined with fine touches of crushed strawberry as well as discrete hints of liquorice with a subtle hint of almost sage/local grove. The palate is fruity, minerality, a nice controlled richness, purity, a nice balance, a little airiness in the approach, sincerity, nice raciness. On the palate, this wine expresses notes of pulpy/juicy black cherry, purple plum and, more slightly, red currant, combined with touches of bright red plum, star anise, a fine hint of sage and a subtle, almost coffee-like note in the background. A nice work on the very discreet bitterness in the background. The tannins are precise and supple.
