Cascina Albano 2014, Affinato in Legno – Barbera d’Alba

The nose is fruity, racy and offers a small power as well as a slight richness. It reveals notes of fleshy blackberry and crushed wild black berries associated with small touches of blue fruits / violet as well as discreet hints of vanilla, toasted, caramelization, sweet spices / nutmeg and cardamom. The palate is fruity, juicy, elegant and offers a beautiful acidulous frame, finesse, a discreetly tight grain, a good definition, a slight gourmandise as well as a small suavity. On the palate this wine expresses notes of juicy black cherry and juicy/fleshy red berries associated with small touches of blackberry, blueberry, juicy/fleshy raspberry as well as small toasted hints, chocolate, caramelization and black olive. Tannins are fine and well-built. Good length. There are a note of Bourbon vanilla and an imperceptible hint of almond (in the background) on the persistence. The wine needs to be put in carafe.
