Cantina Tollo – 2013 Riserva – Montepulciano D’Abruzzo

The nose is aromatic and a bit powerful. The wine needs to be put in carafe. It reveals notes of crushed Bigarreau cherry, blackberry and ripe/crushed redcurrants combined with discreet touches of sage / olive tree, black olive, spices, discreet toasted touches and an imperceptible hint of rosemary. The mouth is fresh, fruity, well-balanced, slightly gourmande and offers a beautiful definition, fat, suavity, a mineral frame, a fine acidity as well as a small juiciness. On the palate this wine expresses notes of fleshy blackberry, fleshy Bigarreau cherry and small notes of fleshy wild strawberry combined with touches of ripe redcurrants, cassis, a subtle hint of zan, sweet spices, almond, a subtle toasted hint as well as a discreet hint olive / olive tree and undergrowth. Tannins are well-built and structuring. Good length. There is a very discreet hint of chocolate / coffee on the finish / persistence.
