Camille Giroud, Grand Cru 2019 – Clos de Vougeot

The wine has a pale ruby color. The nose is very aromatic and brilliant. It offers lots of fruit and savory spice, accompanied by an elegant floral bouquet. It reveals notes of wild strawberry, red cherry, Morello cherry, blueberry, blackberry, blue plum, raspberry coulis, a spicy touch of white pepper, cinnamon, cloves and nutmeg with a fine hint of cumin in the background, as well as a slight note of toast, roasted cherry and grilled meat. There are also delicate floral hints of dried violet, cornflower and rose and fresh lilac. On the palate, the wine offers generous flavors of ripe fruit (Morello cherry, wild strawberry, fresh red cherry and jam, raspberry coulis, blue fig and red plum) with a warm and spicy mid-palate and finish, revealing notes of dark chocolate, coffee, cinnamon, star anise, liquorice, nutmeg, dried peppermint, smoke and roasted meat. The tannins are firm, but round, and have a fine grain and a silky structure. The finish is long, very fragrant and gourmand, with ripe red fruits, a bit candied, but refreshed by a nice acidity and an expressive spiciness. A deep and complex wine with great aging potential.
