André Goichot, La Maladière2020 – Santenay 1er Cru

The wine has a pale ruby color. The nose is tasty, with a pronounced warm spiciness. It expresses notes of ground cumin, ground black pepper, licorice (or even star anise), crushed coriander seeds, cloves as well as a hint of vanilla in the background. We also find notes of violet, cornflower and dried rose petals, as well as a touch of smokiness in the background. The fruits on the nose are ripe, juicy, with a hint of acidity: we find notes of morello cherry, black cherry, fresh blackcurrant, strawberry, raspberry and blueberry, with a touch of mint and blackcurrant bud in the background. On the palate, the wine is juicy, warm, with complexity and a firm structure of tannins, young and a little gripping. It expresses notes of roasted red cherry, crushed strawberry, juicy raspberry, blueberry, as well as a delicate bitterness of cranberries that we find on the finish. Beautiful enveloping texture, juiciness, and a salivating acidity which softens the tannins. Good balance overall.
