Often described as the “wedding of the century”, the ceremony gathered more than 750 million television viewers. It took place at St Paul’s Cathedral in London and was followed by a lavish reception at Buckingham Palace. To accompany this historic event, Dom Pérignon created a very limited edition of its 1961 vintage, reserved exclusively for the official celebrations and a select group of guests. Each bottle was disgorged especially for the occasion in 1981 and decorated with a commemorative label.

1961 is one of the most coveted vintages in the history of Dom Pérignon. In this special edition made for the royal wedding, it reaches an exceptional level of rarity,” explains Thomas Rosendahl, head of the wine department at Bruun Rasmussen. According to him, it is now extremely uncommon for a bottle of this edition to appear on the market.

Beyond being a legendary Champagne, this magnum is a tangible witness to a defining moment in British cultural history, positioned at the intersection of oenological prestige and royal heritage. This dual appeal is expected to attract considerable international interest, both from seasoned wine collectors and admirers of royal memorabilia. “We expect significant attention from buyers around the world… The champagne combines the nobility of the vintage, the aura of Dom Pérignon and the historic dimension of an event that marked an entire generation.” (Thomas Rosendahl)

With this exceptional auction, Bruun Rasmussen offers the rare opportunity to acquire not only a great bottle of wine but also a fragment of history engraved in the collective memory.
