THE CONSORZIO CHIANTI RUFINA APPOINTS GERARDO GONDI AS ITS NEW PRESIDENT

HE WILL BE ASSISTED BY THE TWO VICE-PRESIDENTS FAYE LOTTERO AND ENRICO LIPPI

Rufina, June 26, 2025

The board of directors of the Consorzio Chianti Rufina has unanimously elected Gerardo Gondi – Marchesi Gondi – as the new president for the three-year period 2025-2027. Gondi succeeds Federico Giuntini – Selvapiana. Faye Lottero of Fattoria Lavacchio and Enrico Lippi of Azienda Agricola Frascole have been appointed as vice-presidents.

Gerardo Gondi has been a councilor and vice-president of the Consorzio Chianti Rufina since 2019. Forty-two years old, married with two daughters, a degree in Economics, he is the owner of the Marchesi Gondi Company, a historic company in the heart of Chianti Rufina that has belonged to the Gondi family since 1592. Gerardo joined the family business in 2014 and has been personally managing it since 2017, leading it to a continuous growth. Today, Marchesi Gondi, with Tenuta Bossi, a wonderful Renaissance villa in the hills of Pontassieve, near Florence, is known throughout the world for its wines and, specifically, for the particular declination that Sangiovese takes on in the Rufina

“I welcome this appointment with great enthusiasm and a sense of responsibility” says Gondi. “I am well aware of the complexities of the period for the entire sector and on my part there will be maximum dedication, passion and constant work for the denomination”.

“In these months” – continues the new president – “the consortium has equipped itself with a managerial structure, a control room, led by the new director Francesco Sorelli and a group of professionals from the various DOCG agricultural companies, who will report to me and the Board of Directors. A detailed and structured strategic plan has been presented that is already producing the first results. My mandate will focus above all on three areas, which I believe are fundamental to being able to emerge stronger from this period. First, the product area: we are going through a market situation that we do not know whether it is contingent or structural. The initiatives must enhance the superior quality of Rufina wines, also with the focus on the Terraelectae project, and carry the message throughout the world, through events and demonstrations. Second, the area of the territory: a true resource that is still little explored. The breath of the Apennines that is reflected in the lands of Rufina makes this area a heritage of exceptional value with few equals and wine tourism still has great room for development. Finally, the area of the training: we are building relationships with universities, foreign consortia, scientific institutions, with the assumption that the exchange of knowledge is essential for the growth of both our farms and the reputation of the Rufina wines as a whole”.

President Gondi is already ready with the new board and director Sorelli to face the next challenges and enthusiastically anticipates some of the activities that will be implemented in the coming months, such as the “Jazz in Fattoria” that will take place among the farms of the denomination, the “Bacco Artigiano” in Rufina, this year at its fiftieth edition, passing through the “Firenze Jazz Festival”, “Degusta Vino” in via Gioberti and many other initiatives that are being defined both in Italy and abroad.

Chianti Rufina is a small and prestigious Chianti DOCG that includes the municipalities of Pontassieve, Rufina, Pelago, Dicomano and Londa, north-east of Florence. It is made up of 21 wineries that annually produce, from the approximately 750 hectares of vineyards, approximately 3.5 million bottles. Its flagship product, regulated by a voluntary brand, is the Chianti Rufina Riserva Terraelectae with the mention Vigna, produced with only Sangiovese.
