The 21st Edition of Sicilia En Primeur Kicks Off

From 6 -10 May, 100 journalists from all over the world will explore the Sicily of wine, its gastronomic and cultural heritage to tell the thousand-year story of an island that looks to the future

Vert de Vin attend also this year the special event, Sicilia en Primeur, an event organised by Assovini Sicilia that attracts journalists from all over the world to the island every year. The 21st edition of Sicilia En Primeur, running from May 6–10, 2025, celebrates Sicily’s enduring wine culture while spotlighting its growing future in sustainability, tourism, and global wine excellence. Organized by Assovini Sicilia, the event brings together 100 international journalists for immersive press tours across the island—from Etna to Pantelleria and Agrigento to Lipari—culminating in Modica for tastings, discussions, and a Michelin-starred gala.

Key highlights include:

  • Theme: “The Culture of Wine in Sicily: A Thousand-year Story that Looks to the Future.”

  • Modica will host tastings and discussions at Castello dei Conti and Teatro Garibaldi, covering:

    • Neuromarketing and wine communication for younger generations

    • State labels for “Made in Italy” protection

    • Sustainability and informed consumption

  • Speakers range from Master of Wine Andrea Lonardi to university scholars and sustainability advocates like Alessio Planeta.

  • May 9 Gala Dinner will feature award-winning chefs and iconic Sicilian desserts from Antica Dolceria Bonajuto.

  • May 10 will close with tastings from 57 Assovini producers and a dedicated event focused on Cerasuolo di Vittoria.

President Mariangela Cambria emphasizes wine’s role not just as a product but as a cultural, sustainable, and experiential journey, reinforcing Sicily’s global stature as a wine and gastronomic destination—especially poignant as Sicily has been named the 2025 European Gastronomic Region.
