Philippe de Poyferre Takes the Helm at the Grand Cercle des Vins de Bordeaux: Continuity and Renewal for the “Châteaux Talents”
A New Chapter for the Grand Cercle des Vins de Bordeaux

After more than twenty years at the helm of the Grand Cercle des Vins de Bordeaux, Alain Raynaud has handed over the presidency to Philippe de Poyferre, a seasoned professional in the wine industry.
This handover marks both continuity and renewal within a collective adventure dedicated to promoting the diversity and excellence of Bordeaux wines.
Alain Raynaud, the Visionary Founder
Created in 2002, the Grand Cercle broke new ground by uniting estates from both the Right and Left Banks under shared values: excellence, diversity, and collaboration.
Under Raynaud’s leadership (as both a physician and a passionate taster) the association built a network of 119 châteaux across 26 appellations. Through international tastings, media partnerships, and grassroots advocacy, the Grand Cercle became a symbol of modern Bordeaux, combining prestige with approachability. A. Raynaud will remain as Honorary Founding President and a member of the Board of Directors, ensuring a smooth transition. “The Grand Cercle is, above all, a human adventure,”
Philippe de Poyferre: A New Vision for the “Châteaux Talents”
Philippe de Poyferre, an agronomist, oenologist, and graduate of ESSEC Business School, represents a new generation of leaders who merge technical mastery with strategic insight. He is at the crossroads of technique and strategy. His career spans classified growths, cooperative wineries, merchant houses, international vineyards, and spirits companies — giving him a global perspective on the modern wine market.
Since 2017, de Poyferre has managed Château Loudenne (AOC Médoc), leading the estate’s transition to sustainable viticulture, achieving High Environmental Value (HVE) certification and beginning organic conversion. His approach embodies a Bordeaux that is both responsible and forward-thinking.
“My goal is not to spark a revolution, but to accompany the evolution of the Grand Cercle as the wine world faces new challenges”
An Ambitious Roadmap for 2025 and Beyond

Bordeaux Between Crisis and Renewal
The Bordeaux wine industry is experiencing a challenging moment: declining sales, shifting export markets, and growing environmental expectations.

With Philippe de Poyferre now at its head, the Grand Cercle des Vins de Bordeaux reaffirms its commitment to a modern, inclusive, and sustainable Bordeaux. Balancing tradition and innovation, the “Châteaux Talents” represent a new generation of winemakers, united by a shared desire to make Bordeaux shine differently.
