Pavillon Blanc, Second Vin: Château Margaux launches a second white wine

Pavillon Blanc, Second Vin: Château Margaux launches a second white wine

“Pavillon Blanc du Château Margaux”, until 1920 called “Château Margaux Vin Blanc de Sauvignon” is a unique wine, produced byChâteau Margaux since the beginning of the 18th century.

Always in search of excellence, the Domaine has undertaken significant work on soil analysis and has been able to adapt the work in the vineyard, in order to harvest each plot at its optimal maturity. Vinification and aging are also adapted to the different grapes produced. This rigorous work and a selection of less than half of the harvest obtained, made possible not only to improve the quality of the Pavillon Blanc of Château Margaux but also to produce a second wine of such quality that it was decided to put it in bottles from the 2022 vintage.
Made from 100% Sauvignon Blanc like the Pavillon Blanc from Château Margaux and produced by historic vines of the property, the Pavillon Blanc Second Vin will be appreciated in its youth and will age harmoniously for at least twenty years.

The Pavillon Blanc Second Vin is only the fifth wine launched by the Domaine in five centuries and will be distributed by merchants of the Place de Bordeaux. It will be quickly available at the best wine merchants and specialised websites.

About the Pavillon Blanc Second Vin 2022

The year 2022 was the hottest and driest that Château Margaux has ever experienced. The summer was marked by three long, intense heat waves and six weeks without rain. The property decided to harvest the white grapes from August 18 in order to preserve the freshness of the wines. This harvest was the earliest in the history of the estate and gave birth to a great vintage due to the aromatic complexity and concentration of the wines.
The Pavillon Blanc Second Vin 2022 offers a complex, subtle, and floral nose, a rich and creamy palate, balanced by a fresh and saline finish. Only 8,000 bottles of Pavillon Blanc Second Vin were produced for this first vintage, the yields of which were among the lowest in the history of the property.
