Maison Mumm unveils the new design of the Mumm Cordon Rouge cuvée

A Touch of Timelessness for This Iconic Cuvée

On the eve of Mumm Cordon Rouge’s 150th anniversary, Maison Mumm is delighted to unveil the new design of this iconic champagne. True to the history of Mumm Cordon Rouge, this new creation is rooted in both the heritage of Maison Mumm and the energy of our time. Maison Mumm has successfully combined its historical legacy with the modern spirit that defines it.

An Iconic Red Ribbon

Founded in 1827, Maison Mumm boasts a rich history spanning nearly 200 years. At that time, Georges Hermann Mumm led the House that bears his name, embodying its motto: Nec plus ultra (Only the best). This philosophy is symbolized by the famous red ribbon. In 1876, this visionary entrepreneur decided to adorn the House’s bottles with a red ribbon. Initially, it took the form of a silk cord—evoking the Legion of Honour — a symbol of excellence and luxury. In 1881, the silk cord disappeared. A red ribbon was integrated into the label and, over time, became the representation of champagne worldwide. This powerful symbol helped forge the unique history of this cuvée, embodying Maison Mumm’s ability to break new ground. From the Arctic Circle – Mumm Cordon Rouge accompanied Commander Charcot, the first Frenchman to lead an expedition to Antarctica in 1904, to Mumm Cordon Rouge Stellar, the first champagne designed to be enjoyed in zero gravity, aboard a space flight in 2025 — Mumm Cordon Rouge continues to write its story. A story whose 150th anniversary Maison Mumm will celebrate in 2026.

New era, new design

In 2025, the red cord is proudly displayed on a new label whose cream color is also inherited from the past, as is the medallion highlighting the founding date. This medallion adorns an elegant red half-tie, a contemporary reincarnation of the silk cord created in 1876. Another strong heritage element: a more stylized version of Mumm’s historic eagle is featured in a seal delicately embossed in hot-stamped gold. The G.H. Mumm name has been designed to express the unique identity of the House, and the glossy finish and embossing add a touch of sophistication. The slightly satin finish of the red cord, the premium paper, and the gold trim are further examples of the attention paid to every detail. This new design prominently displays the brand, not only on the label but also on the cap.

“This creative revolution restores the iconic Mumm cuvée to its former glory, reinforcing its timeless and authentic character.” Yann Munier, Cellar Master of Maison Mumm

A Singular Expression of Pinot Noir

Expressing both the philosophy of excellence and the spirit of exploration of the Champagne House Mumm, the blending of Mumm Cordon Rouge was particularly complex compared to Brut champagnes, at the time of its creation. With a greater number of crus and the systematic use of reserve wines, the creation of this cuvée illustrated the House’s mastery of the art of blending, all in service of the wine’s quality. This historical expertise is perpetuated today by Cellar Master Yann Munier. Born from the rich terroirs of Champagne, Mumm Cordon Rouge expresses the freshness of Pinot Noir, the House’s signature grape variety, which dominates the blend of this cuvée. “Pinot Noir has been linked to Maison Mumm for nearly 200 years, particularly that of the Montagne de Reims, which is essential to our blends, lending them the power, elegance, and freshness that define the Mumm style. This signature grape variety and this terroir are inseparable from the history of Maison Mumm and the iconic Mumm Cordon Rouge,” comments Yann Munier. After aging for nearly two years in the historic cellars of Reims, the wine fully reveals its aromatic personality. The exacting standards don’t stop there, as Yann Munier explains: “Each year, I adjust the proportions of the three grape varieties that make up the Mumm Cordon Rouge blend according to the characteristics of the harvest, which allows us to perpetuate the style of this historic champagne.” Mumm Cordon Rouge unveils generous aromas of yellow and white fruits, and some delicious hints of pastry. On the palate, it reveals great freshness and vivacity, while offering an elegant roundness. The quality of this wine convinced the experts at Drinks Business, who awarded Mumm Cordon Rouge the Master Medal, recognizing it as one of the best non-vintage brut champagnes in 2025.

Available from October 2025. Recommended retail price: €30.
