Cava Meeting 2025: Cava excellence shines in Font de la Canya
Two days of tastings, debates and international encounters celebrated the savoir-faire, unity and prestige of Cava a symbol of Mediterranean heritage and lifestyle.
The second edition of Cava Meeting, organised by the D.O. Cava at Font de la Canya, near the Iberian archaeological site that marks the cradle of Catalan winemaking, gathered leading figures from the global sparkling wine industry for two days of tastings and discussions dedicated to the excellence of Cavas de Guarda Superior. More than 200 wines from 65 wineries were presented, confirming the vitality and diversity of an appellation on the rise.

In his opening speech, Javier Pagés, president of the D.O. Cava, reaffirmed the strength of unity and the need to preserve Cava’s Mediterranean identity while looking towards the future: “We will be stronger if we stand united and work hard. Cava should not be afraid.” The congress, curated by a prestigious advisory committee including Sarah Jane Evans MW, Pedro Ballesteros MW, Ferran Centelles, Ramon Francàs and María Naranjo, combined scientific sessions, masterclasses and themed tastings, exploring the effects of lees ageing and the aromatic complexity that defines the finest Cavas.
Discussions highlighted producers’ socioeconomic responsibility, the essential role of cooperatives, and the growing influence of women oenologists within the denomination. The event also showcased the rising importance of long-aged Cavas, terroir-driven wines and Elaboradores Integrales, estates mastering every stage of production.
A highlight of the programme was the tasting “Cava & Sherry: The Magic of Flor and Limestone”, an unprecedented dialogue between the wines of Jerez and Cava. The session “Icons of Time” (led by Essi Avellan MW) presented exceptional cuvées aged for over one hundred months on lees, demonstrating the remarkable ageing potential of traditional-method sparkling wines.
The closing ceremony honoured individuals and institutions that have contributed to Cava’s global reputation: Marta Torné (Young Talent Award), the José Andrés Group (Restaurant Award), Josep Roca (Sommelier Award), Celler Mestres (Historic Winery Award), and Josep Buján (Lifetime Achievement Award). The evening concluded with a gastronomic experience by El Celler de Can Roca, illustrating Cava’s culinary versatility and international appeal.
With Cava Meeting 2025, the D.O. Cava reaffirms its commitment to origin, sustainability and excellence, consolidating its position as a global benchmark for fine sparkling wines crafted in the traditional method.
