Château Destieux, winner of the 14th Saint-Emilion Grands Crus Classés challenge
The Saint-Emilion Grands Crus Classé challenge 2014 has just closed at Vinexpo Asia-Pacific
The Château Destieux (winner of this challenge in 2012 and finalist 2010) was the winner, winning the final ahead Château Monbousquet, that was the runner-up. And the two semi-finalists were Château Cadet Bon and Château Dassault.
Organized by the Saint-Emilion Wine Council, this 14th biennial competition had 36 Saint-Emilion Grands Crus Classés go head to head in a series of eliminatory rounds (blind taste) in which pairs of wines were compared for overall consistency in quality in three consecutive vintages. This year, the vintages were 2009, 2010 and 2011.
The four top winners will be honored in the medieval city of Saint-Emilion during the « Fête de Printemps » of the Saint-Emilion Jurade, Sunday June 15th 2014. They will presented with a magnum-sized decanter from the Riedel crystal collection.
Since 1999, there is also the Saint-Emilion Crus Challenge, held every two years in Bordeaux, alternating with the Saint-Emilion Grands Crus Classés Challenge.
