The wine has a medium ruby colour. The nose is complex and deep: it offers intense aromas of red and black fruits (Morello cherry, blackberry, black plum, blueberry, wild strawberry, red cherry) with a slight touch of toast and smoke. The spices are quite present on the nose, but they are integrated and add to the complexity of the wine. There are notes of black pepper, clove, liquorice, nutmeg with a touch of slightly bitter tonka bean and star anise in the background. The wine also reveals elegant floral and herbal notes of peony, violet, blueberry and peppermint. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, offering richness, roundness and a seductive ripe fruitiness. There are flavours of juicy Morello cherry, wild strawberry, raspberry coulis, black plum, blackberry and blackcurrant jam, as well as spice (liquorice, black pepper, cinnamon, nutmeg and a very discreet note of tonka bean), herbs (dried peppermint, green tea) and fresh flowers (violet, cornflower, peony). The tannins are still young, a bit drying but have a fine texture. Nice persistence on spices and ripe, juicy fruit, accompanied by fresh, salivating acidity and a pleasant bitterness. Good ageing potential.
