Château Clos de Sarpe, winner of the 15th Saint-Emilion Grands Crus Classés challenge
12 years ago, for the first time the Saint-Emilion Grands Crus Classés Challenge was organised outside Europe. On May the 25th, for the sixth time, this challenge was held at Vinexpo Asia-Pacific in Hong Kong.
Organized by the Saint-Emilion Wine Council, this 15th biennial competition had 36 Saint-Emilion Grands Crus Classés go head to head in a series of eliminatory rounds in which pairs of wines were compared for overall consistency in quality in three consecutive vintages. This year, the vintages were 2011, 2012 and 2013.
The Château Clos de Sarpe was the winner, winning the final against Château Fleur Cardinale. And the two semi-finalists were Château Laroze and Château de Pressac.
The four top winners will be honored in the medieval city of Saint-Emilion during the Harvest Permission of the Saint-Emilion Jurade, Sunday September 18th 2016. They will be offered a magnum-sized decanter from the Riedel crystal collection.
