Virna Borgogno – Barolo Sarmassa Docg 2019

Virna Borgogno – Barolo Sarmassa Docg 2019

A winery that thrives on ideas and the solid foundation of a woman: Virna. She holds dear her roots and the future, prioritizing the personal interpretation of the grape, which she cultivates in special parcels of the Langhe, from Cannubi Boschis to Sarmassa. From the latter, among other great expressions, and with a full southern exposure, comes a Barolo made from Nebbiolo (Lampia and Michet) at an altitude of 250 meters above sea level. Due to the austere 2019 vintage, it presents with heightened tannic vibration, accompanied by pronounced balsamic notes and a distinctive gustatory charisma, given by a rather broad astringent texture—expected from the vineyard—enriched by a noteworthy, satisfying, and enveloping fruity expressiveness. A wine to drink and drink again, to enjoy its power, carefully balanced to last at least 15 years from now.
