Villa Mangiacane, « Z District » 2018 – Chianti Classico Gran Selezione

The wine has a medium-intensity ruby color with slight garnet highlights. The nose offers concentration and freshness in its fruit : it expresses notes of crushed red cherry, juicy morello cherry, crushed raspberry, wild strawberry and blackberry, combined with elegant herbal notes (blackcurrant bud, dried bergamot tea, wild mint), as well as tangy dark chocolate, coffee, toasted almond, liquorice, ground cumin and roasted coriander seeds. There is also a hint of tobacco and roasted bouquet garni. The palate offers freshness, acidity and density in its fruit. On the attack, it expresses flavors of roasted red cherry, crushed morello cherry, roasted raspberry, crushed raspberry, wild strawberry, and blackberry, combined with hints of dark chocolate, coffee, toasted almond, as well as roasted rosemary, dried peppermint, and fresh tobacco. The tannins are firm, slightly grippy, but balanced by mouthwatering acidity and the juiciness of the fruit. Good persistence on the palate, which adds a good bitterness, delicate tertiary notes of brewed tea and undergrowth. A well-evolved wine, with still potential and complexity.
