Thirsty Owl Wine Company Diamond 2022 – Finger Lakes

The wine has a pale lemon yellow color. The nose is aromatic and rather complex: it combines the ripe side of the fruits, honeyed, herbaceous and floral notes, as well as a distinct minerality, reminiscent of hydrocarbons. Aromas include ripe yellow apple (with a touch of roasted apple in the background), dried yellow lemon zest, a hint of crushed blood orange, yellow peach, pineapple, quince, as well as bitter citrus preserves (grapefruit, lime). Aeration also reveals a clear limestone and stony minerality, as well as notes of roasted quince, fresh quince, hay, dried white flowers (acacia, linden) and honey. There is also a light touch of gooseberries and cucumber in the background. The palate is generous, soft, pleasantly sweet. The attack expresses notes of white currants, ripe peach and apricot jam (but not too sweet). On the mid-palate, we feel the flavors of ripe pineapple, yellow peach, candied lemon peel, as well as roasted quince, fresh yellow apple and slightly bitter blood orange. The finish offers a salivating and balancing acidity, a slight bitterness of grapefruit (even bergamot with a smoky touch), as well as a more delicate mineral touch than on the nose (hydrocarbons, a hint of limestone). Good length on the citrus acidity. A gourmet, balanced and accessible wine.
