In one of the choicest places for Barolo Nebbiolo, Serralunga d’Alba, Piero Rossi Cairo manages the Cucco Estate with obstinacy and care. Since 2018, in addition to converting the vineyards to organic, he has been convincingly producing three versions of Barolo with a parcel approach (à la Burgundy). From the Cucco Vineyard, the winery’s most historic vineyard within the Cerrati MeGa, facing south and south-east at 350 meters above sea level, on limestone-clay soil, a Barolo is born after a maceration of around 30 days and an aging of 30 months in traditional 25-hectolitre barrels. In the austere and classic vintage like the 2019 is, the wine shows itself with density, a solid tannic structure, given by a fine and persistent pixels, aromas of dark red fruits, currants and berries, hints of spices.
