Tenuta Casenuove 2021 – Chianti Classico Riserva

The wine has a ruby color of medium intensity. The nose is delicate and reserved at first (the wine benefits from aeration). It then expresses notes of cranberries, blackcurrant, red cherry, morello cherry, raspberry, as well as wild mint, a hint of pine sap and pine needles, as well as a spicy (liquorice, vanilla, nutmeg), toasted and chocolatey (toasted almond, toasted wood, dark chocolate) notes. There is also a herbaceous touch of bouquet garni and bay leaf in the background. The palate is juicy, gourmand, tangy and chiseled. It expresses flavors of red cherry, cranberry, blackcurrant, morello cherry, blueberry, as well as dark chocolate, a tangy touch of cocoa nibs, spices (liquorice, nutmeg, cardamom, tonka bean, a sweet hint of vanilla and cinnamon), herbaceous and floral (wild mint, peony). The tannins are tight, slightly grippy, but fine-grained. The acidity is lively, salivating and refreshing. The finish is persistent and gourmand, with notes of ripe and juicy fruits, as well as a bitter hint of bergamot and coffee and a sappy touch. A tasty and expressive wine, but a little closed on the nose at first.
