Tenuta Casenuove 2021 – Chianti Classico Gran Selezione

The wine has a bright ruby color of medium intensity. On the nose, it is reserved and requires aeration. Then, it expresses delicate notes of sweet spices (nutmeg, white pepper, a hint of liquorice and vanilla in the background), combined with notes of roasting (toasted hazelnut, cocoa, coffee), crushed mint leaf, fresh thyme, bay leaf, as well as dried rose, a touch of limestone minerality and a tangy fruitiness (cranberries, red cherry, blueberry, morello cherry, crushed blackcurrant). There are also very light notes of fresh wood and toasted wood. The palate is more open, juicy and gourmand. It expresses notes of crisp strawberry, red cherry, morello cherry, crushed red currant and raspberry, combined with a touch of roasting (toasted almond, cocoa, toasted wood), savoury spices (crushed coriander seeds, liquorice, nutmeg, white pepper, a hint of vanilla), as well as a hint of wild mint and peony in the background. The tannins are structured, enveloping, solid, but with a fine texture. Nice salivating acidity and good length on the morello cherry and roasted red cherry notes. A wine with potential, but tight and closed at the moment.
