Shafer – Hillside Select 2014 Stags Leap District – Napa Valley

The nose is floral and airy and offers a certain deepness, intensity and precision. It reveals notes of violets, small wild berries and small notes of juniper berries, associated with fine hints of pepper, smoke and a discreet hint of black olive. On the palate, the wine is well-built, fruity, fresh, elegant and gourmand. It presents a tangy frame, precision, tension, suppleness and gourmandise. In mouth this wine expresses notes of creamy cassis, small dense black berries, darkness, a hint of graphene, tonka bean/cocoa, as well as fine hints of small bright blue fruits, quite ripe red berries, tobacco and a hint of camphor. Tannins are mellow and gourmand. A silky, gourmand wine and offers darkness and elegance. Good persistence and plan on good bitters.
