San Casciano Zac 2020 – Chianti Classico Gran Selezione

(organic) The wine has a ruby color of medium intensity. The nose is aromatic and juicy, with a ripe and tangy fruitiness. It expresses aromas of morello cherry, tangy red cherry, blackcurrant, crushed raspberry and blackcurrant in the background, combined with notes of cocoa (even dark chocolate), fresh hazelnut, toasted hazelnut, as well as toasted wood in the background. There are also notes of brewed black tea, peppermint, blackcurrant leaf in the background and a pleasant savory spiciness (fresh liquorice, ground cumin). Aeration also reveals a light smoky and mineral touch (dry stone), combined with a hint of dried rose. The palate is tangy and lively, with an attack on notes of red cherry, cranberries and raspberry. We find also flavors of blackcurrant, fresh black plum, as well as liquorice, nutmeg, cumin in the background, as well as toasted wood, toasted hazelnut and cocoa. The tannins are melted and velvety, but well-structured and slightly cocoa-flavored. The finish is savory and persistent, with a good bitterness of coffee and almond, and a salivating acidity. A straightforward, precise and concentrated wine.
