Rovellotti, Costa del Salmino 2016 – Ghemme Riserva

The wine has a pale ruby color with garnet highlights. The nose is perfumed, gourmand and combines fruity and tertiary aromas – dried red cherry, amarena cherry, dried plums in the background, crushed blackcurrant, a hint of blackberry, combined with notes of tobacco, brewed black tea, wet leaves and mushrooms in the background. We also find spicy aromas (nutmeg, cumin, a hint of liquorice and star anise) and floral aromas (fresh rose, potpourri). The palate is expressive and savoury, and offers a fruity and tangy attack, more on the freshness than on the notes of maceration (red cherry, cranberries, dried red cherry, raspberry, morello cherry). The flavors then develop towards menthol notes (wild mint, liquorice, star anise), tertiary (potpourri, dried tobacco, undergrowth), with a toasted and spicy hint in the background (liquorice, nutmeg, a hint of star anise). The finish is lively, with a salivating acidity and a slight bitterness in the notes of cranberries and grapefruit. The tannins are still tight and grippy, but fine. A wine with a certain complexity, a still solid structure and touches of fresh fruit.
