Rocca di Castagnoli, Poggio A’ Frati 2021 – Chianti Classico Riserva

(organic) The wine has a medium-intensity ruby color. The nose is savory, spicy, toasty, with distinct roasted notes (roasted red cherry, roasted bouquet garni, a slight hint of roasted meat). After aeration, it expresses notes of tart red cherry, fresh blackcurrant, morello cherry, raspberry, blackberry, and red plum, combined with notes of liquorice stick, crushed cardamom, white pepper, as well as crushed wild mint, pine bark, pine needles, dark chocolate, coffee, toasted almond, Earl Gray tea, and violet. The palate is straight, tight, and tangy, with a solid, even slightly dry, tannic structure. It expresses the flavors of tart red cherry, cranberries, blackcurrant, morello cherry and raspberry, combined with a spicy (liquorice, black pepper, cardamom), toasted (coffee, toasted almond, bitter cocoa) and herbaceous notes(bergamot tea, blackcurrant leaf, mint in the background). The finish is quite persistent, dry (the tannins are firm), but balanced by a salivating acidity and a pleasant bitterness. A wine with potential, but still needs to develop.
