Podere Ciona 2016 – Chianti Classico Riserva

Podere Ciona 2016 – Chianti Classico Riserva

The wine has a medium intensity ruby color with slight garnet reflections. The nose is discreetly fragrant, spicy and complex. It expresses gourmand notes of powdered cinnamon, toasted vanilla, crushed coriander seeds, liquorice (or almost star anise) and Sichuan pepper, combined with a juicy and warming fruitiness (the aromas of ripe morello cherry, crushed blackcurrant with a touch of crème de cassis, ripe plum, even prunes, kirsched red cherry, redcurrant jelly and raspberry eau-de-vie). We also find notes of dried basil, peppermint, dried thyme, a touch of coffee, toasted almond, dark chocolate, wild rose, violet and balsamic cream. The palate is round, warm and suave, with silky and very fine tannins. It expresses the gourmand notes of ripe morello cherry, kirsched red cherry, redcurrant jelly, raspberry coulis, wild strawberry, crushed blackcurrant and a touch of blackcurrant cream, combined with gourmand notes of cherry in chocolate, bitter cocoa, chocolate with mint, as well as a savoury spiciness ide (liquorice, nutmeg, Sichuan pepper) and freshness of herbs and flowers (peppermint, wild rose). The tannins have a well-built structure and a refined and delicate texture. The finish is long, gourmand, fruity, with good bitterness and refreshing acidity. A pleasant and balanced wine, with good aging potential.
