Podere ai Valloni, Vigna Cristiana, Vino di Colle 2016 – Boca

The wine has a pale ruby color with slight garnet reflections. The nose is aromatic, with spicy and fruity dominants. It expresses notes of crushed morello cherry, red cherry jam, amarena cherry, raspberry coulis and roasted wild strawberry, combined with notes of fresh liquorice, Timut pepper, cumin and nutmeg, as well as notes of crushed wild mint, fresh peony, cherry blossom and fresh rose. The palate offers a tight, spicy and slightly bitter attack (bird cherry, licorice, Timut pepper, nutmeg, coffee), but the mid-palate is juicy and fruity (crushed morello cherry, amarena cherry, plum, red cherry jam). We then find notes of bird cherry which also persists on the finish, bitter cocoa and cocoa nibs, as well as a mentholated hint of pine needles and a touch of fresh flowers (rose, peony). The finish is long and offers a smoky and tertiary touch (fallen leaves, undergrowth) and fine but firm and grippy tannins. A solid wine, with complexity and juicy fruitiness.
