Pietraforata 2016 – Ghemme

Pietraforata 2016 – Ghemme

The wine has a pale garnet color. The first nose expresses tertiary notes of damp leaves, undergrowth (dried leaves, dry pine needles), dried tobacco and mushrooms (even truffle in the background). After aeration, we find notes of dried blackcurrant, crushed raspberry, dried red cherry, fresh red plum and crushed blueberry, combined with herbal notes (fresh mint, hay), an earthy mineral touch, flowers (dried rose, faded peony, dried cornflower, fresh wild rose) and sweet spices (white pepper, a hint of liquorice, cardamom box and nutmeg). The palate is fluid, juicy, but with solid tannins, fine texture. The attack is slightly toasted, bitter (coffee) and cocoa. Then we find notes of dried fruits (dried red cherry, dried raspberry, dried blackcurrant) and fresh fruits (red cherry, a hint of blueberry), associated with an earthy mineral hint, tertiary notes (dry undergrowth, dried tobacco, black tea) and floral notes (dried cornflower and rose, faded peony), as well as a touch of nutmeg and cardamom box. Good length, salivating acidity and a chiseled structure. An evolved but perfumed wine that has kept its freshness.
