Pasquale Pelissero, « Cascina Crosa » 2021 – Barbaresco

(barrel sample) The wine has a ruby color of medium intensity. The nose is aromatic, finely spicy, slightly mineral and expresses a ripe fruitiness. We find the aromas of ground clove, nutmeg, liquorice, cardamom and roasted vanilla in the background, associated with a touch of torrefaction (toasted wood, toasted hazelnut, a hint of coffee), aromatic herbs (wild mint, fresh rosemary), a slightly sweet floral touch of iris, as well as juicy and gourmand fruity notes (wild strawberry, morello cherry, red cherry jam, raspberry coulis, blueberry jam). The palate is tight and offers accuracy, straightness, young and grippy, but fine tannins, as well as juiciness of the fruit, a savoury spiciness and good volume on the palate. It expresses the flavors of wild strawberry, morello cherry, red cherry jam, crushed raspberry, blueberry jam, combined with notes of sweet spices (liquorice, black pepper, ground clove), pronounced, but integrated touches of torrefaction (coffee, toasted wood in the background, toasted hazelnut), aromatic herbs (dried wild mint, rosemary), as well as a gourmet touch of plum in chocolate and cocoa on the finish. The finish is persistent, gourmand and expresses good bitterness, as well as lively acidity. Beautiful structure, accuracy and good  potential for aging.
