Pasquale Pelissero, « Bricco » San Giuliano 2021 – Barbaresco

(barrel sample) The wine has a pale ruby color. The nose is subtle, a bit reserved, but opens up after aeration. It expresses fine herbaceous and floral hints (dried bay leaf, dried mint, fresh tobacco, iris and lilac), as well as a distinguished minerality which appears in the second nose (limestone, dry stone). We also find delicate notes of sweet spices (liquorice, ground nutmeg, cloves, a hint of vanilla), torrefaction (heated wood, toasted hazelnut in the background), dark chocolate and ripe and juicy fruits ( morello cherry, fresh black plum, crushed raspberry, wild strawberry, wild blackberry). The palate expresses a structure of firm tannins, but with a fine grain, a gourmand and enveloping fruitiness, all in freshness, as well as a beautiful acidity. It expresses the flavors of wild strawberry, morello cherry, dried red cherry, blueberry, crushed raspberry and wild black plum (with its tannic touch), associated with an integrated spiciness (nutmeg, grilled vanilla, a touch of clove), flowers (dried rose, iris), aromatic herbs (dried mint, rosemary), as well as a touch of chocolate and torrefaction (hazelnut toast, coffee). The finish is persistent, with good bitterness, a touch of dark chocolate and salivating acidity. A precise and structured wine, with a good aging potential.
