Niepoort, Jurris 2018 – Douro

The wine has a ruby color of medium intensity. The nose is finely spicy, fragrant and offers precision and an elegant floral bouquet. It expresses notes of wild rose, peony, violet and dried cornflower, associated with a fine minerality (graphite), the freshness of fruits (wild strawberry, raspberry, tart red cherry, morello cherry, wild blackberry, blackcurrant), with  delicate herbaceous hints (dried mint, fresh thyme, a touch of sage) and spiciness (liquorice, vanilla in the background, nutmeg, crushed coriander seeds), as well as a touch of dark chocolate. The palate offers juiciness and straightness. It expresses notes of tangy black fruits (blackcurrant, blueberry, morello cherry), gourmand red fruits (wild strawberry, red plum, red currant), associated with notes of sweet spices (liquorice, cumin, grilled vanilla, walnuts). nutmeg), dried mint, chocolate cherry and fresh flowers (rose, peony, violet). The tannins are velvety, but grippy, balanced by a nice acidity. The finish is persistent, gourmand and delicately spicy (with notes of nutmeg and liquorice) and herbaceous (a touch of dried mint).
