Niepoort, Bioma 2018 – Douro

(organic) The wine has a ruby color of medium intensity with slight garnet reflections. The first nose is mineral (dry stone, graphite) and is complemented by aromas of fresh fruit after aeration. It expresses notes of morello cherry, dried red cherry, wild blackberry, crushed raspberry and wild strawberry, associated with notes of prunes, dried black fig, chocolate cherry, liquorice, as well as a hint of toasted vanilla, cloves, toasted wood, dried mint and a fine floral bouquet (dried rose, lilac). The palate offers airiness and lightness, a fine and silky texture of tannins, as well as ripe and tangy fruit. It expresses the flavors of dried red cherry, morello cherry, fresh strawberry, crushed blueberry, raspberry, as well as a tertiary touch of undergrowth (which is not on the nose), dried tobacco, licorice, white pepper, dried mint, dried rose and toasted wood in the background. The finish expresses lively acidity, juiciness, good bitterness and offers good persistence.
