Niepoort, Batuta 2021 – Douro

The wine has a deep ruby color. The nose offers fruit, juiciness and a certain concentration. It expresses notes of ripe morello cherry, black plum, wild strawberry and raspberry coulis, combined with a touch of prunes, dark chocolate and dried mint, as well as a floral touch of peony in the background. The mouth is round and juicy. It expresses notes of fresh fruit (morello cherry, red cherry, wild strawberry, black plum, a touch of blackberry), combined with a touch of dark chocolate, prunes and liquorice. The tannins are fine, enveloping and slightly tight. Beautiful salivating acidity on the finish, accompanied by a good bitterness, good persistence with notes of cherry in chocolate. A fruity wine, with a certain firmness and a well-built structure.
