Niepoort 2015 Vintage Port

The wine has a deep ruby color with very light garnet reflections. The nose is fragrant, refined, with lots of gourmandise and freshness. It expresses notes of very ripe fresh fruit (crushed blackcurrant, juicy morello cherry, wild strawberry), a touch of raspberry jam, a warm hint of kirsch cherry, mint chocolate, bitter cocoa, plum jam, of crème de cassis, a fine spiciness (cloves, licorice, toasted vanilla, cinnamon in the background), as well as a refined floral touch of peony and sugared violet. We also find roasted notes enveloped and integrated into the bouquet of the wine (sweet coffee, fresh hazelnut, toasted almond). The palate is expressive, full and rich. It expresses the flavors of morello cherry jam, crushed wild strawberry, raspberry jam, crushed wild blackberry, blackcurrant jam, crème de cassis, as well as tasty notes of sweet spices (cinnamon, grilled vanilla, a hint of licorice), dark chocolate, coffee and toasted almond, with a touch of caramel in the background. The tannins are firm and powerful, but melted and velvety. Good balance between sweetness and acidity and salinity.
