Monteverro 2020 – Toscana

The wine has a ruby color of medium intensity. The nose is fragrant, savoury and expressive. It opens with notes of fresh ripe and roasted fruits (morello cherry, roasted red cherry, black plum with a hint of prunes, ripe blackcurrant, crushed blueberry, wild blackberry, ripe wild strawberry), which are complemented by spicy notes (liquorice, crushed cardamom, white pepper, a touch of cumin and nutmeg), herbaceous (dried wild herbs, dried rosemary, dried peppermint, fresh thyme) and floral (thyme flower, iris, lilac, wild rose), as well as fresh almond, toasted hazelnut, cocoa nibs, fresh coffee and dark chocolate. As it matures, the wine expresses notes of pine bark, dried pine needles, as well as mineral notes of limestone, wet stone and a hint of salt in the background, complemented by a savory touch of roasted bouquet garni. The palate is suave, velvety and supple, with a soft and enveloping texture, but dense and gourmand. It expresses flavors of ripe morello cherry, roasted red cherry, wild strawberry, blackcurrant, bird cherry, wild blackberry and blueberry, combined with herbal notes (bay leaf, olive, peppermint, a hint of cassis bud, dried pine needles), floral notes (violet, thyme flower, wild rose), a race minerality (wet stone, limestone), as well as sweet coffee, fresh bitter almond, toasted hazelnut in the background of cocoa nibs and dark chocolate. The tannins are firm, fine-textured, solid and slightly dry, but balanced by refreshing acidity. The finish is long, precise and gourmande, with good bitterness of bird cherry and cocoa, an enveloping side of chocolate morello cherry, as well as a smoky touch of bergamot and a hint of limestone minerality. A powerful, well-constructed wine, but at the same time refined and elegant.
