Marcarini Barolo La Serra 2021 – Barolo

Marcarini Barolo La Serra 2021 – Barolo

The wine has a pale ruby color. The nose is fruity, tangy and quite open – it expresses notes of dried red cherry, fresh red cherry, blueberry and fresh raspberry. After aeration, we find the airy notes of fresh flowers and aromatic herbs (peony, a hint of violet and faded rose, dried peppermint, rosemary and bay leaf in the background). There is also a savory nuance of sweet spices (licorice, grated nutmeg), a sweet touch of dark chocolate, as well as a hint of roasting (ground coffee, toasted hazelnut) and fresh black plum, which intensifies after aeration. The palate is juicy, fruity, with a good bitterness of fruits (fresh cherry, grapefruit) and grippy but fine tannins. It also expresses notes of cranberries, sour red cherry and dried blackcurrant, combined with some spiciness (white pepper, liquorice, grated nutmeg), toasted (coffee, toasted bitter almond, bitter cocoa). The finish is persistent, tannic, but balanced by a salivating acidity. We find a racy minerality (limestone, dry stone) as well as a smoky and bitter touch of bergamot on the persistence. A juicy and open fruity material on the nose, the mouth is tighter, structured and needs time to open up.
