Malvira’ Mombeltramo 2020 – Roero Riserva

(organic) The wine has a pale ruby color, with slight garnet reflections. The nose offers density, as well as an airy fruitiness, with notes of fresh and candied fruits. It expresses aromas of fresh red cherry, a touch of raspberry jam, fresh strawberry, dried blackcurrant, as well as fresh cherry. After aeration, we find notes of hay, dried herbs, dried rose, as well as touches of roasting with a good bitterness (bitter almond, coffee, cocoa nibs), bitter chocolate and toasted hazelnut in the background and sweet spices (liquorice, cardamom, a hint of vanilla), as well as a floral hint (violet, iris in the background). The palate is supple, fruity, gourmet. The attack offers notes of juicy and ripe fruits (red cherry, morello cherry, crushed raspberry, wild strawberry, a hint of blackberry and blueberry). In the mid-palate, we find slightly peppery notes, as well as liquorice, cardamom, a tangy lemony frame (bergamot), as well as roasting (coffee, dark chocolate, toasted almond). The finish is tasty, gourmet, long and fresh, with a beautiful salivating acidity and a good bitterness of fresh cherry. Tannins are suave, melted and mellow. A gourmet wine, accessible, but well structured.
