Luca Leggero – Canavese Nebbiolo Maura Nen Doc 2021

Luca Leggero – Canavese Nebbiolo Maura Nen Doc 2021

It is one of the winery’s flagship references made with Nebbiolo, specifically the Picotener biotype, a indigenous variety of  Valle d’Aosta and the Canavese area, just a few kilometres from  the city of Turin. The grapes are more compact and produce wines fairly concentrated and juicy, with both good fragrance and pleasant balsamic notes.

Leggero, through his work in restoring old vineyards dates back to the 1920s in his native village of Villareggia, the last outpost of Canavese, offers such a carismatic Nebbiolo. The wine is elegant, very pleasant and appealing on the nose, with scents of small red fruits, blueberries, dried flowers and aromatic herbs. On the palate, it’s lively and energetic, with a fine tannic structure that enhances the drinkability, supported by a viscous and tonic body.

The wine is aged for 10 months in Austrian oak barrels of 25 and 50 hl and in a 7.5 hl amphora. It is released after a minimum of 12 months in the bottle. A “great debut”, with high expectations for a dazzling 2023 vintage, which was previewed from the barrel.
