Les Pèlerins de Lafon-Rochet 2020 – Saint-Estèphe

The wine has a deep ruby color with purple reflections. The nose is fragrant, complex and deep. It expresses precise but subtle notes of sweet spices (cinnamon, toasted vanilla, licorice stick, even star anise, ground cumin, cloves), combined with a beautiful fruity bouquet. We find notes of ripe morello cherry, roasted red cherry, blackcurrant, blueberry, wild strawberry. There are also refined aromas of aromatic herbs (dried thyme and rosemary), juniper berries and bay leaf. In the background, we find touches of toasted hazelnut, sweet coffee, fresh tobacco, as well as a floral touch of dried rose and cornflower. On the palate, the wine offers power, richness and gourmandise. The tannins are firm, structured, but have a velvety texture enveloped in the fruit. It expresses the flavors of roasted red cherry, ripe morello cherry, blueberry, blackcurrant and wild strawberry, combined with notes of sweet spices (cinnamon, liquorice, vanilla), a hint of cocoa, dried flowers (cornflower, rose petals), as well as a touch of mint chocolate and toasted hazelnut. The finish is long, savoury and spicy, with a salivating acidity which gives freshness to the wine. A deep, complex wine, which will evolve over time.
